The Women’s Imaging Center is the first in the county to offer full field digital mammography. This, combined with other high-tech services of the center, brings a new level of care to women in and around La Porte County.

The digital services replace the need for traditional film mammography, and provide for a quicker and more efficient patient experience with less X-ray exposure.

The digital services offered through the Women’s Imaging Center span the care continuum to include screening and diagnostic mammography with computer-aided detection (CAD), breast ultrasound, breast MRI, and image-guided minimally invasive breast biopsy. Because a screening mammogram is often the first step a woman will take before needing the other services, digital mammography is the anchor of the Women’s Imaging Center.

The Women’s Imaging Center of La Porte Hospital, and its mammography services, is accredited by the American College of Radiology. The ACR, headquartered in Reston, VA, awards accreditation to facilities for the achievement of high practice standards after a peer-review evaluation of the practice. Evaluations are conducted by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. They assess the qualifications of the personnel and the adequacy of facility equipment. The surveyors report their findings to the ARC’s Committee on accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report.
